Beveled edges add a finishing touch to vector shapes and text. Vector art is composed of geometric elements such as lines, circles and shapes, as opposed to bitmaps which are made up of many pixels. A smooth beveled edge in vector graphics adds a realistic 3-D effect. Beveled vector shapes and text are scalable and resolution-independent, so they have the same quality when printed huge on the side of a truck as they do on a small business card.

1. Go to “File,” then “New” and choose 3 by 3 inches for the width and height of your new document. Select “CMYK” for the “Color Mode,” and choose a Transparent background.
2. Step 2

   Double-click on the black box in the Toolbox on the left to change the Foreground color. When the Color Picker comes up, choose a light or medium value color so the bevel will be prominent.

3. Step 3

   Click on the “Ellipse” tool in the Tool box and draw a circle in the middle of your canvas big enough to take up about a third of it. You will see that it automatically fills up with the Foreground color you have chosen.

4. Step 4

   Go up to “Effect” on the horizontal menu bar at the top of your art board and scroll down to “3-D.” Click on “Extrude & Bevel” on the sidebar that opens up.

5. Step 5

   Set “Extrude” at two degrees and for “Bevel” choose the “Classic” bevel shape at a height of “4 pt.” Use the “Plastic Shading” setting. Click OK. Your circle now has a beveled edge. The slight extrusion provides a contrasting dark edge.

6. Step 6

   Click on the Foreground box and choose a different color in the “Color Picker” to contrast with your circle.

7. Step 7

   Go to the “T” in the Toolbox, drag it to your art board and type in a name such as “Vector.” Change the font to “Pump Demi Bold Let Plain 1.0″ and set the font size at 36 points.

8. Step 8

   Go to the “Direct Selection Tool” (white arrow) at the top of the Toolbox and drag it over to select your text. Then go to “Effect,” “3 D,” choose 5 points for “Extrude,” and the “Classic” bevel shape at 4 points in height. Click OK. Now you have turned your text into beveled vector art.

9. Step 9

   Use the “Move” tool (dark arrow) to drag your text on top of your circle. This approximates the look of a simple logo or badge done in beveled vector art.

10. Step 10

    Go to “File,” click “Save as,” and name and save your vector art file as an AI or PDF file. If you save it as a PDF, check the option to preserve Illustrator editing capabilities.

Adobe Golive CS2 is software used to design, code and manage Websites. The Golive user-interface is customizable through the creation and rearrangement of tabs in palettes and the “Site” window.

1. Choose the “Window” option in the toolbar, and then select a new palette from the list. This will open a palette group.

   To move a tab in the palette group, click the tab and drag it inside the palette. Create a new tab by clicking the desired tab inside the palette, and dragging it outside of the palette group.

   Click and hold the palette tab, and drag it to the side of the monitor screen until the palette tab snaps in place. This new tab is able to slide up and down the edge of the monitor screen. Click the tab to open and close it.

   Choose the “Window” option in the toolbar, select “Workspace” and then navigate to “Save Workspace” to save the new workspace. In the “Save Workspace” dialog box, name your new workspace. Click the “OK” button. When starting a new work session in Golive, choose the “Window” option in the toolbar, and then select the name of your new workspace to access it.

If you have ever tried in Photoshop CS2 to cut a person out of one image, and then paste them into another, you probably know that there are several ways to do this. One way is to use the “Quick Mask” mode to create a selection that you can then cut and paste. Or you might use the “Pen” tool to make a selection. But a problem with either method is that you often end up with jaggies (unattractive-looking jagged edges) around the hair. These jaggies can be removed, however.

1. Open Photoshop. Select “File” and then “Open.” Open a file you have already been working on that has a layer containing hair with jaggies.
2. Step 2

   Trim the hair to remove the jaggies using one of the selection tools. It doesn’t have to look good after this haircut. It’s OK to have straight flat edges here.

3. Step 3

   Select the “Foreground” color, and use the eyedropper to select your color from the hair. Select the brush tool, and pick a hard, small brush. Slowly fill in the missing hair you removed in step 2. Select a lighter color from the hair to add highlights.

   Type the following address in the address bar located on the top of the Windows Explorer window if you are using Windows Vista or 7: “\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Adobe.” Press “Enter.” Delete files and folders with CS3 in the name. Type the following address in the address bar located on the top of the Windows Explorer window if you are using Windows XP: “\Documents and Settings\<user_name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe.” Press “Enter.” Delete files and folders with CS3 in the name.

7. Step 1

   Click the “Finder” icon on the dock and click “Applications.” Double click “Utilities” and double click “Adobe Uninstallers.”

8. Step 2

   Type your administrator password and select “Uninstall Components.” Follow the guided prompts to complete the uninstallation. Repeat for each CS3 program or suite that you wish to uninstall.

9. Step 3

   Go to “Users” and select your username. Select the “Library” folder and select “Preferences.” Delete files and folders with CS3 in the name. Go to “Library” folder and select “Application Support.” Select the “Adobe” folder and delete files and folders with CS3 in the name.
